Last year was our first year with a blog. Â At Thanksgiving, we shared about the things we are grateful for and it seemed like a tradition worth carrying on this year.
As we get ready to enjoy Thanksgiving with our families this year, we recognize that we have a lot for which we can be thankful. This year has continued to be challenging for many and we have not been immune to those challenges.

Actually a whole month of giving! Thanks to our amazing homeowners, great employees, and wonderful folks like you, SummerHill Homes raised over $500 and approx. 1,000 pounds of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and the Alameda County Food Bank!
WOW! Â Thank you EVERYONE for your participation!
We are so proud to support agencies that combined serve over 376,000 people a year. With your help, these food banks are making sure that no child, senior, or family goes hungry this holiday season.
In the spirit of giving…What else have you done to support your local community this holiday season? Do you have a non-profit organization you love to support?
Happy Day after Thanksgiving & Friday!

I had to pick a little bit of a creepy title in honor of this Friday the 13th blog right? Instead of blood and tears (we’ve all had enough of that!), let’s talk sweat, as in sweat equity.  And no, we’re not talking about your 13 year old mowing the lawn so he can go out Friday night, we’re talking about your time and non profit organizations.
As you saw in Allison’s post earlier this week, a team of SummerHill employees volunteered their time to build some sweat equity at The Second Harvest Food Bank of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. In some cases,  time can be worth more than money. Rita, the volunteer coordinator at the food bank, invited us to come back and work in the warehouse again in January, as they will have received so many donations that they won’t be able to get the fresh or perishable food out to those in need quickly enough!

Halloween parties with ghoulish treats, hot drinks and always too much food… Sound familiar?
Probably, and it sounds familiar to me too. Luckily, my family has always had enough (more than enough) food for parties, holidays, and every day. But some folks here in my community aren’t so lucky. Every month the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties provides food to more than 207,000 people. (more…)
