Friday, May 7th, 2010

Sunday is Mother’s Day! It is a great time to do something special to celebrate the mom in your life.

At a meeting yesterday, someone shared with me that they were going to make their wife a delicious breakfast with grilled asparagus, which got me thinking about how to celebrate mom with a fresh, delicious breakfast from the Farmer’s Market.

I’ve been going weekly to the Farmer’s Market at the College of San Mateo.  Some of the fresh, local foods that I’ve been seeing include asparagus, strawberries, oranges, lemons, spinach, eggs, plus jams and much more.  Here are a few recipe ideas to tap into the local ingredients available at the Farmer’s Markets near you: (more…)

Discovering a New Local Find in San Bruno

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Tomorrow we’re hosting a broker event at our Merimont community in San Bruno. We wanted to share some tasty treats with our broker partners.   It would be easy to pick up pastries at Starbucks, where we will be getting the coffee, but that just didn’t seem as fun as supporting the local bakery.  I hopped on Yelp and discovered Pastisserie Ganache in San Bruno.

All things social – Facebook, Twitter, a blog

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Read a post by New Home Feed, run by Graphic Language, that asked questions about how homebuilders use the web, (also full disclosure GL is our web agency), well really why homebuilders are so slow to adapt, gee thanks .  Just kidding, anyhow, yes on the whole homebuilders are probably slower to adapt than other companies.    We want to see the benefit of something, a new tool or product, before we start using it.

It also got me thinking about about SummerHill’s social media efforts.  We initially looked at joining Twitter and Facebook in 2008, but waited until 2009 to launch.  It was helpful for us to watch other companies first.

We aimed high last year when we launched Facebook, Twitter, and a blog plus a mobile site within a short time frame of 60 days, oh and if you count launching live chat for Mrs. Hill, our online concierge in January, well you get the picture we were busy in early 2009.  Now granted some of this had been in the works for awhile longer, but much of it was done with the dedication of Elissa, Lance and me to just get things off the ground.  We kicked it off, kept on rolling, and now almost a year has passed.   (more…)

It’s February… Happy New Year!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Happy Chinese New Year that is! The 2010 Chinese New Year began on February 14th with the new moon and involves a host of festivities lasting approximately 2 weeks. Welcome the Year of the Tiger (see a traditional chinese papercut version of the tiger below). The Tiger is a sign of bravery and brings protection, courage and power. Sounds to me like a much needed sign for this recovering economy. If you are looking for ways to welcome this encouraging sign, you don’t have to look far! Here are some local ways to celebrate this Chinese New Year!

Roses are red, violets are blue – ideas for sharing the love with your Valentine’s

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

This Valentine’s Day is extra special as it is also the Chinese New Year.  So bring in good fortune and celebrate with someone you love.  Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be super expensive to make it special or romantic.   Sometimes it is as simple as a day at the spa, or an evening out on the town, even getting away overnight can feel rejuvenating and special.

The miracle and novelty of refrigeration

Monday, February 8th, 2010

It was not long ago that many homes in the United States didn’t have refrigerators. In fact, it was only in the 1930s that fridges became affordable enough for 60% of households in the US to own one and many people in the UK didn’t own one until the 1970s, that is pretty recent!  (source: Wikipedia)

Before that people would grow food or go to the local store daily.  In many other countries throughout the world, refrigeration is still a novelty.  We take this novelty for granted, we can keep things frozen for a couple months, we can keep milk cold for a week, and we can go to the store once a week to have more than enough food to keep our families fed each night. Who do you trust? Headlines & Stories about real estate are a mixed bag

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

We work in the Real Estate market and the headlines make even my head spin.  Many of the stories can be spun in different directions and the trend seems to pull out the negative facts for a catchy title that gets clicks.  The facts are often buried in the story. (more…)

Baby, it’s Cold Outside, but it’s still Hot at Park Station

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

The weather has certainly been hard to miss this week and with the lows reaching the low 30s (yes that’s Fahrenheit, not Celsius).  We’re shocked at this cold spell and the snow that we’ve seen in the surrounding local mountains.  It has looked a bit like driving to Tahoe on the drive to our San Ramon office this week.  Today the snow had melted a bit on Mt. Diablo, but it was still there.

Our new homeowners are probably feeling a little more grateful for the energy efficiencies in their homes this week.  With homes built to high standards for energy efficiency, the new SummerHill homes promise lower bills from PG&E. (more…)
