A few weeks ago, we got to attend the Viking® Experience at The GSC. It was tremendous to check out all of the innovation in kitchen appliances. They have many distinct kitchens to show the array of design options available with Viking Appliances. I am still trying to pick my favorite kitchen. With over 23 color finishes to choose from, your can really customize your kitchen. Here’s a photo of the Viking® representative showing us the finish options:
They also showed us just how fast an Induction Cooktop can boil water, it is faster than fast. I just may convert to Induction from Gas in my next kitchen.
And, they offer Brunch dates for you to enjoy a product demonstration and a scrumptious brunch prepared by Kathryn, their culinary director. If you’re a SummerHill homebuyer, our design team can arrange a private appointment at the Viking® Experience at The GSC for you to learn about your new appliances available standard at Satake Estates and as options at some of our other communities.
Oh, there are a few more innovations in technology for your home that I couldn’t resist sharing…

Oh, the beauty and promise of Spring. There is of course a price to pay for the beauty and promise of Spring. Household maintenance and cleaning that is. After all, who wants to look through your kitchen window to enjoy the crocus and tulips in bloom only to see dirt, grime and bug carcass laden glass? (more…)

Who doesn’t love Spring? This year for certain will be much anticipated. Although we needed the rain and we are grateful, we are now truly looking forward to the promise and beauty of Spring. One way to welcome in Spring is to do it through your decorating. Happily, you can bring Spring into your home now, even if Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog saw his shadow or it has rained for 3 days straight.

It was not long ago that many homes in the United States didn’t have refrigerators. In fact, it was only in the 1930s that fridges became affordable enough for 60% of households in the US to own one and many people in the UK didn’t own one until the 1970s, that is pretty recent! (source: Wikipedia)
Before that people would grow food or go to the local store daily. In many other countries throughout the world, refrigeration is still a novelty. We take this novelty for granted, we can keep things frozen for a couple months, we can keep milk cold for a week, and we can go to the store once a week to have more than enough food to keep our families fed each night. As we decided to relocate to the Bay Area and were looking for a house, we had a few houses in Los Altos in our mind. However, considering both of us are working full-time with two kids under three years old, we were wondering if we’ll be able maintain a 30 to 50 year-old house.
Then, when we visited model houses at Redwood Gate, we fell in love with them at first sight. First, it has great Palo Alto schools. Second, the floor plan fits in our need – the first floor has a spacious open plan where our kids can play around while we are cooking or even working with the laptops sitting in the kitchen island. Third, when we walked around the area we loved the beautiful trees all around the place!

The current trend is toward the more contemporary finishes with an overall ease of maintenance. This is most predominate in the selection of polished or metallic finished flooring and countertop materials.

Neutral Colors Brought to Life with Bold Accents
In this current world where we are all seeking a bit of calm, we are seeing a trend in design towards neutral colors, grays, beiges , whites, mixed with bold accents.
