Just ask the residents at SummerHill’s latest sustainable living community – Satake Estates in Mountain View. Each home at the environmentally friendly Satake Estates showcases a beautiful Rain Garden in the front yard. This is just one of the many features used to achieve the Build it Green’s GreenPoint Rating System.

A few weeks ago, we got to attend the Viking® Experience at The GSC. It was tremendous to check out all of the innovation in kitchen appliances. They have many distinct kitchens to show the array of design options available with Viking Appliances. I am still trying to pick my favorite kitchen. With over 23 color finishes to choose from, your can really customize your kitchen. Here’s a photo of the Viking® representative showing us the finish options:
They also showed us just how fast an Induction Cooktop can boil water, it is faster than fast. I just may convert to Induction from Gas in my next kitchen.
And, they offer Brunch dates for you to enjoy a product demonstration and a scrumptious brunch prepared by Kathryn, their culinary director. If you’re a SummerHill homebuyer, our design team can arrange a private appointment at the Viking® Experience at The GSC for you to learn about your new appliances available standard at Satake Estates and as options at some of our other communities.
Oh, there are a few more innovations in technology for your home that I couldn’t resist sharing…

Summer is nearly upon us, which means it’s time to change out the winter clothes for the summer clothes. And with the bright and airy seasons of Spring and Summer, colors are more vibrant.
It is fun to brighten up our homes in addition to our wardrobes as the seasons change.
A simple yet elegant way to freshen up your living room for the new season is with some throw pillows.

As we decided to relocate to the Bay Area and were looking for a house, we had a few houses in Los Altos in our mind. However, considering both of us are working full-time with two kids under three years old, we were wondering if we’ll be able maintain a 30 to 50 year-old house.
Then, when we visited model houses at Redwood Gate, we fell in love with them at first sight. First, it has great Palo Alto schools. Second, the floor plan fits in our need – the first floor has a spacious open plan where our kids can play around while we are cooking or even working with the laptops sitting in the kitchen island. Third, when we walked around the area we loved the beautiful trees all around the place!

The Holidays are a great time to live on the wild side of your style personality. Red, green and blue are not the only colors for the season anymore.
You could be a minimalist and choose a monochromatic palette of a wintry white- candles can help with this theme, PotteryBarn.com has a great example.

Do you envision it as a spa in Sonoma?
Picture this as a calm, serene place, with neutral colors, shades of white, gray, beige, popping with colors of nature in variations of green. Smooth tiles with movement, glass tiles, dark smooth woods, Berber carpets.

The Perfect Retreat - a soaking tub with neutral accent colors. A spa in your very own home.

The current trend is toward the more contemporary finishes with an overall ease of maintenance. This is most predominate in the selection of polished or metallic finished flooring and countertop materials.

Yesterday, I tweeted about this cool new memory chip from Apple that allows you to download photos from your camera to your computer wirelessly, yes, wirelessly. Now I haven’t tried it yet, but I would like to as I am inevitably searching for a the connection cable when I want to download photos at work to upload on our Facebook pages or even here for our blog.
This got me thinking about our new homes. One of the things that sometimes goes unnoticed is how easy it is to have your own home network. (more…)
